Kazakhstan holds Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation

From September to December 2011 Kazakhstan is chairing the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC).
The Forum, together with the Permanent Council, the Ministerial Council and the Summit, is an independent OSCE decision making body with responsibility for adopting official decisions. The Forum consists of the permanent representatives of the participating States and holds weekly meetings at the OSCE headquarters in Vienna for negotiations and consultations on specific measures to strengthen security and stability in the OSCE region with respect to politico military matters. It is the Forum’s task to organize negotiations on arms control, disarmament and confidence building measures and on reducing the risk of conflicts and to hold regular consultations on security issues, as well as annual implementation assessment meetings to evaluate the implementation of confidence and security building measures and seminars on military doctrine.
In accordance with established practice, the Chairmanship is assumed by each OSCE participating State in turn following French alphabetical order. Chairmanship of the FSC lasts four months. In 2011 the FSC is chaired by Iceland (January to April), Italy (May to August) and Kazakhstan (September to December).
On 7 September in Vienna Kazakhstan will hold the first FSC plenary meeting where the country will present its program and priorities for the next four months.
